YU Study Finds Higher Marital Satisfaction For Shalom Workshop participants

A study was recently conducted by Chani Maybruch of the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education at Yeshiva University called “Relationship Education for Modern Orthodox Jewish Adolescents and Marital Satisfaction: A Quantitative Study.” The study aimed to determine whether or not there were differences between those who attended a Shalom Workshop premarital workshop, another premarital workshop, or no premarital workshop and their overall marital satisfaction.

According to the study, those who participated in Shalom Workshop had the highest overall marital satisfaction which was higher than those who participated in another premarital workshop and those who did not participate in a premarital workshop at all.

The Shalom Workshop was started in 2006 and is a highly successful premarital education program that aims to prepare engaged couples for a healthy and successful marriage. Many hundreds of engaged and newly married couples have attended this innovative workshop that teaches them how to increase understanding and sensitivity to each other’s feelings, communicate effectively, build a sense of mutual respect, promote self confidence in each other, utilize valuable tools for conflict resolution and gain better financial awareness.

The Shalom Workshop is given in one or two sessions, and is led by Orthodox professionals who have been specially trained and have successfully assisted many young couples in making sure that their marriage is healthy at the outset and will be long lasting.

Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski, M.D. and other Rabbanim have endorsed the workshop and strongly recommend all engaged couples to register for the S.H.A.L.O.M. Workshop. It is given in groups or individually, on an ongoing basis in New York City and in Long Island, however, arrangements may be made for out of town groups depending on details.
