Addressing an Unmet Need
In 1992, a pediatrician in New York approached several members of the community to discuss a problem he was seeing repeatedly in his practice: Jewish women and children with bruises – the victims of domestic abuse. Alarmed by what they saw, a small group of concerned women came together in an effort to begin addressing this uncomfortable and neglected problem.
The seed was planted for what has grown into a dynamic national organization - an agency whose aims are to help women and families struggling with troubled relationships at home, to sensitize our communities so that a woman can feel less ashamed to ask for help, and to offer professional guidance and pointers to Rabbis who may be approached for advice by someone in a complex and possibly dangerous situation.
Shalom Task Force is incorporated as a nonprofit organization. Our funding comes from grants and individual donations. Support of this vital effort would be a meaningful way to memorialize or honor a loved one.
