ABOUT S.H.A.L.O.M. WORKSHOP
The S.H.A.L.O.M. Workshop (Sustaining Healthy and Long-lasting Marriages) is a marriage education program that prepares couples for a healthy and successful marriage. Since 2007, hundreds of engaged and married couples have attended this innovative workshop and gained understanding and skills that will help support a healthy and fulfilling marriage.
The goal of the S.H.A.L.O.M. Workshop is to teach engaged and married couples practical tools to achieve and maintain a healthy marriage. The ability to easily and effectively meet each other's emotional needs helps build a strong foundation for a true Bayis Ne'eman B'Yisrael.
Participants cover important topics including:
Increased understanding of and sensitivity towards each other's feelings
Effective communication through a sense of mutual respect
Building confidence in each other and the relationship
Effective and responsible financial management
Young couples today face more demands than ever before. The typical modern marriage generally involves managing two careers while rearing children. Doing this well requires that spouses have strong communication skills, can resolve conflicts effectively and efficiently, and set goals together. Without a solid foundation to accomplish these tasks, it is easy to be overwhelmed by stress and time pressures.
Problems can crop up much more easily than most couples realize. Marriage preparation provides the necessary foundation to boost a couple’s capacity to handle these potential difficulties. According to a U.S. Advisory Committee on Marriage, “pre-marital education could help reduce divorces by as much as 30%.”
The S.H.A.L.O.M. Workshop has been endorsed by prominent rabbonim, as well as mental health professionals. It is conducted either in group or single couple setting, in locations convenient to the NY/NJ area. Arrangements can be made for other locations as well.
This workshop is not a replacement for traditional Chosson/Kallah classes. It supplements those classes by helping participants to achieve a deeper level of self-knowledge and gain tools with which to build a happy, successful, and long-lasting marriage.
